Elaine I. Freeman, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, in Standish, Michigan, with her loving family by her side. Born on December 11, 1949, in Owosso, Michigan, to the late Clifford and Lois (Goodman) Good, Elaine's life was a testament to her selfless nature and her unwavering commitment to her loved ones.
Elaine's journey through life was one of enduring love and shared joy. She married the love of her life, John Freeman, on June 3, 1973, at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Their union was a shining example of devotion, and together they celebrated 41 years of marriage, filled with laughter and cherished memories. Elaine was a pillar of strength and support to her family, leaving behind a legacy of love in her children, Brian Freeman, Crystal (Brian) Charbonneau, and Kendra Bishop. Her six grandchildren, Isabella, Anthony, Claire, Harlan, Cutter, and Darius, were the apple of her eye, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She also had exchange students, Celine, Agnes, Anja, and Bamee, whom she embraced as part of her family.
Elaine's family circle extended to her sister Lorraine (Jerry) Mogg, and a sister-in-law Maggie Easterbrook, as well as her sisters-in-law Becky and Jodi Good. Though she was predeceased by her husband John, her brothers Tom and John Good, and brothers-in-law Everett Freeman and Buster Easterbrook, the memories they shared continue to live on through the stories and traditions she passed down to her family.
A proud graduate of Graceland College, Elaine earned her bachelor's in teaching and maintained lifelong connections with her Shalom sisters. Their weekly conversations were a source of great comfort and joy, a cherished friendship that spanned the years. Elaine's professional path led her to the Department of Corrections, where she worked for numerous years until her retirement. Her dedication to her work was matched only by her commitment to her faith and community.
As an ordained elder in the Community of Christ Church, Elaine's faith was a guiding light in her life. She also lent her voice to the Arenac County Choraleers and found fellowship and creative expression with her GAB writing group. Her interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. From attending her grandchildren's events and reading to crafting, sewing, quilting, writing, singing, painting, and drawing, Elaine embraced life with open arms. She found great pleasure in breakfast gatherings with friends and was a devoted attendee of church services. Above all, time spent with her family was her most treasured gift.
Elaine's spirit was characterized by her loving nature, her faith-filled heart, and her selfless dedication to others. Her impact on those around her was profound, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her. As we remember Elaine, we are reminded of the warmth of her smile, the kindness of her actions, and the depth of her compassion. Her life was a beautiful portrait of love and service, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of walking alongside her on her earthly journey.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 11 am from the Community of Christ Church, 300 N. Center Rd, Saginaw, Michigan 48638 by daughter, Elder Crystal Charbonneau, and son, Elder Brian Freeman presiding. Family and friends may visit the church from 10 am until time of service. Per Elaine's request, she will be cremated and buried alongside her husband at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
