Lois Dorothy Hanley Obituary

Lois Dorothy Hanley, age 97, of Standish, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026. She was born on February 21, 1929, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and lived a long life marked by faith, devotion to family, and quiet strength.

Lois was a woman whose life reflected the values she held dear. She was faith-filled, creative, and courageous, and those qualities were evident in the way she cared for others and met each season of life with grace. She carried herself with dignity and warmth, and she touched the lives of many through her kindness, steadfast presence, and gentle spirit.

She met the love of her life, Charles Hanley, on a blind date arranged by a friend, and the two were married on May 18, 1949. Their marriage was a lasting partnership built on love, commitment, and shared memories. Charles was the center of her heart, and together they created a family legacy that remained important to her throughout her life.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Martha (Erdman) Boeder, her husband, Charles Edwin Hanley, and grandsons Wade Libbrecht and Bradley Niswonger. Her passing marks the end of a remarkable life, but her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her children, Charles R. Hanley, Jeannine Hanley, Chris (Linda) Hanley, and Edith (Wayne) Libbrecht. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Steven Hanley, Brian Niswonger, Lisa Hanley, Nancy Fournier, and Arienne Libbrecht as well as six great-grandchildren. Her family was a source of great joy to her, and she took pride in each generation that followed her.

Lois worked many retail jobs over the years, where she was known for her dependable nature and her willingness to work hard. She approached her work with the same steady spirit that she brought to every part of her life. Her strong work ethic and practical wisdom were part of what made her such a respected and beloved presence among those around her.

In her quieter moments, Lois found happiness in simple and meaningful pastimes. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and knitting, and these interests reflected her patience, creativity, and care. Whether she was making something with her hands or spending time with a good book, she found comfort and purpose in the things she loved.

Lois Dorothy Hanley will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and treasured great-grandmother. She lived a long and meaningful life, and her legacy is one of faith, creativity, courage, and love. Her family and friends will remember her with deep affection and gratitude for the many ways she enriched their lives.

Funeral service will be held on September 12, 2026, at 11:00am at the Beacon of Light United Methodist Church located at 201 S. Forest St. Standish, Michigan 48658 with Rev Russ Poirier presiding. Family will greet friends at 10:00am until the time of service.
