Mary Margaret Grier Obituary
Mary Margaret Grier "Buzzy", 87, of Standish, passed away on August 23, 2026 at New Hope Bay Assisted Living in Bay City, Michigan. Mary was born on June 9, 1939, in Standish, Michigan, to Armon and Lorene (Bissonette) LaClair. She graduated from Standish High School in 1957. She married the love of her life, James Leonard "Jim" Grier, on June 21, 1958. Their deep love and devotion to each other lasted for 64 beautiful years until Jim's passing in May 2023. Mary and Jim did absolutely everything together.
She loved going on casino trips, taking family vacations, watching Detroit Tigers baseball games, listening to music at festivals, and cheering at sports games her children and grandchildren played. Through the years, she worked as a dental assistant and as a cashier at the Ben Franklin Store. She also managed the books for the family business, Grier's Fisheries. Over the years, Mary welcomed many faithful dogs into her home. These pets stood guard over many lively garage parties, which may have included fish fries, where friends and family gathered to play cards and enjoy a drink together.
Buzzy loved planting vegetable gardens, canning, making homemade pickles and baking delicious apple dumplings. She was a huge fan of country music and a lifelong member of the Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church. Buzzy will always be remembered for her cheerful, friendly, and easygoing personality. She was incredibly fun-loving, deeply caring, and completely devoted to her home and family. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers: Jack (Wanda), Nelson (Dottie), Leo (Karen), Ray and Norman. .
She is survived by her brother, Tom (Karen) LaClair. She leaves behind her loving children: her son, Mike (Lisa) Grier of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, along with grandchildren Miranda Grier and James (Kayley) Grier, and great-grandson Julian James Grier; and her daughter, Debbie (Charlie) Walker of Essexville, Michigan along with granddaughters Ellyse Walker and Lauren Walker. Funeral services will be held on Thursday August 27, 2026, at the Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church officiated by Father Ronald Wagner at 11 a.m.
The family will greet friends starting at 9 a.m., and a luncheon will follow the service.
