Ruth Jean Caldwell, age 79, of Standish, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, in Standish, Michigan, after a life marked by intelligence, creativity, and deep devotion to the people and pursuits she loved.
She was born on March 20, 1947, in Bay City, Michigan, and grew up in Standish, Michigan, where she formed the roots of a life grounded in community, family, and enduring friendships. Ruth carried the values of her hometown with her throughout her life, and those who knew her remember her as a woman of quiet strength, sharp mind, and warm spirit.
Ruth earned her bachelor's degree in business from Lansing Business University, a reflection of her determination and commitment to learning. She went on to work as a case worker for the State of Michigan Department of Social Services, where she served others with compassion, professionalism, and a sincere concern for the well-being of those in need. Her work was meaningful to her, and she approached it with the same passion and thoughtfulness that guided every part of her life.
Beyond her career, Ruth was known for the many ways she expressed her creativity and care. She enjoyed knitting and scrapbooking, activities that allowed her to create with her hands and preserve memories with intention and artistry. She is survived by her sister, Teresa (Jerry) Mauch; her niece, Bethany A. Rivard; her great-nephews, Shae Rivard and Matthew Rivard; and many cousins. Her family will remember her with love and gratitude for the many ways she enriched their lives through her kindness, her intelligence, and her steady presence.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Howard R. and Geraldine G. (Worden) Caldwell; her nephew, Michael J. Rivard; and her cousin, Debbie Worden. Though her absence will be deeply felt, her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Those who knew Ruth will remember her as an intelligent, creative, and passionate woman whose life was guided by purpose and care. She met life with a thoughtful spirit and a strong sense of self. Honoring Ruth's wishes cremation has taken place with a celebration of Ruth's life to be held at a later date.
