Lorraine Marie Stanley Obituary
Lorraine Marie Stanley, fondly known to many as G.G. or 'Upgramma,' passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, in Sterling, MI, at the age of 86. Born on May 16, 1938, in Pinconning, MI, Lorraine's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and the rich greenery of her beloved gardens.
Her zest for life and the simple pleasures it offered was contagious. Lorraine's green thumb was legendary with her two expansive gardens on her farm. There, she joyfully tended to her flowers and plants, often with her children and grandchildren by her side. She also enjoyed sharing her canned pickles with her grandchildren and they loved them very much.
Not just known for her remarkable gardening skills, Lorraine was also renowned for her delicious pancakes that would still somehow be warm after hours of being made. Her word searches and scratch-off lottery tickets were her treasured pastimes, bringing her immense joy in her quieter moments. Reading was another passion, and she would often be found browsing through a stack of her favorite magazines also known as 'comic books.'.
Her family, the core of her world, included her beloved children David, Kathy (Dan), Karen (Rusty), and Linda (Tony). Lorraine was a cherished grandmother to seven and great-grandmother to eight, all of whom carry with them the legacy of her warmth and spirit. She leaves behind her siblings Marion, Dort, Barb, sister-in-law Diane, Madonna, and Ruthann, who together with her family celebrate her rich life.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her devoted husband Patrick Stanley, her brothers Bob, Clarence, and Norman, her sister Patricia, and brothers-in-law Lester and Marshall.
Lorraine will be remembered as a loving, kind, and funny matriarch whose famous 'Wash Day Stew' was a symbol of her nurturing soul. Her memory will continue to bloom in the hearts of those she touched, just as her flowers will continue to bloom each spring.
Funeral Mass will be held Monday, April 7, 2025, at 11:00am at Resurrection of The Lord Catholic Church, 423 W Cedar St. Standish, MI 48658, with Rev. Fr.
