He was predeceased by: his parents, John Metzger and Beulah Metzger (Young); his sons, John Charles and Jeffery Carl Metzger; his sister Lois Robinson; and his grandparents, Harvey, Anna Metzger (McAuffie), Walter and Minnie Young.

He is survived by: his wife Judy Metzger of Sturgis; his children, Jerry Craig Metzger (Rachel) of Sturgis and Lisa Metzger Pasquinelli of Troy; his granddaughter Hannah Pasquinelli; his stepgranddaughter Olivia Pasquinelli; his stepson Richard Dudek (Nicole) of Sturgis; his stepgrandson Wyatt Dudek; and his nieces and nephews, Richard Singleton (Debra) of Sturgis, Calvin Singleton of Sturgis, Jeannie Hagen of Burr Oak and Vicki Singleton of Sturgis. He is also survived by his family, friends.
