She was predeceased by: her parents, Fernand François Aimé Benoît and Santisudha Chatterji Benoît; her husband Dietrich; and her grandson Ryan Meyer. She is survived by: her children, Hans Jurgen Heinert (Edita, family: Hans Christopher Heinert, Ava Vallor, Anna Ryland, George Mathews) and Maya Renee Heinert (Reto Schaerli); her grandchildren, Nicolas and Elise Schaerli; her son Klaus Dietrich Heinert (LuAnn); and her grandson Gavin Meyer. She is also survived by great-grandchildren.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, Sumitra's philosophy that "Every act of kindness, courage and compassion has a ripple effect" be practiced by all those who remember, loved, or knew her.
