He was predeceased by : his parents, Thorton Bates and Martha Bates (Koester); his sister Joan Russel; and his son Fredrick J. Bates. He is survived by : his wife Sandra; his sons, Stewart (Donna) and Aaron (Sharon); and his grandchildren, Jasen and Cassondra (Joe).
