He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Schmidt and Alma Schmidt (Starkey). He is survived by: his wife Joy (Joy); his children, Wendy Beardsley (Bill) of Saline, Julie Wright (Tom) and Brandon Schmidt (Amanda) of Tecumseh; his grandchildren, Rachel Beardsley Lafler (Zach), Sarah Beardsley Taylor (Alex), Evan Beardsley, Emma Beardsley, Jacob Wright (Holly), Karlie Wright Baird (Jon), Zeke and Hank Schmidt; his great grandchildren, Bentley, Kally Baird, Elijah, Hunter, Evelyn Lafler, Olivia and Sophia Wright; his siblings, Bruce Schmidt (Dee), Raymond Schmidt (Linda), Keith Schmidt (Kathy), Harvey Schmidt (Pat), Mary Schmidt Dunham of Tecumseh and Glenn Schmidt (Jackie) of Adrian; and his half-sister Suzanne Francoeur of Sand Creek, MI..
Visitation was held on Wednesday, June 4th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Handler Funeral Home-Tecumseh Chapel (313 W Pottawatamie St, Tecumseh, MI 49286). A memorial service was held on Wednesday, June 4th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to and designated for the Tecumseh High School Boys Basketball team and the Tecumseh High School Boys Baseball Team or Hospice of Lenawee.
