He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles R. Gilligan and Frances P. Gilligan (Kramer); and his brother Charlie. He is survived by: his children, James Robert Gilligan, Jr., Erin Ann Gilligan (Cary Sandvig) and Bridget Ann (Gilligan); his grandchildren, James "Jimi" Robert Gilligan III, Levi Skye Morris, Kylie Scout Gilligan and Allyson Jean Nicholson; his wife Phila Gilligan (Halvorson); his stepdaughters, Sara Covitz (Jay) and Stephanie Taylor (Sean); and his siblings, George, Dennis, Sandie and Vickie.
