She was predeceased by: her parents, Carl Osterling and Gloria Osterling (Cutler); and her brothers, Brian and Brad. She is survived by: her husband Philip Jay Van Hammen; her daughters, Kathryn Louise Hohfeldt (John) and Sarah Fern Kemp (Jake); her grandchildren, Grace Louise Hohfeldt, Bryn May Kemp and John Ross Hohfeldt, Jr.; and her sisters, Maria Schmit (Dave) and Elaine Severson (John). She is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews; and 27 great nieces and nephews.

“I am very saddend to to hear of Ellen's passing...and yet very happy to know that she is now surrounded by the great love of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I had a good working relationship with Ellen from working with her as a Medical Technologist at Blodgett and later at Spectrum Health, Butterworth hospitals. We worked together in the Hematology and Coagulation departments and analyzed blood and body fluid specimens. Ellen was very respected in her field and had many good friends.”

“One of the good memories of Ellen and Phil was of attending a Madrigal Feast at their church that was a wonderful time of music, costumes and delicious food. Also the time we got a great Christmas drink recipe for wassail which we still enjoy to this day.”
