He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Peters and Sarah Peters (Skaggs); and his siblings, Gary Peters (Shirley), Arthur Peters (Carol), Mary Reno (Frank) and Carol Shimmel.

He is survived by: his wife Barbara Sue Atwell; his daughters, Lisa Jensen (Steve) of Marine City, MI and Jennifer Harbour (Charles) of Omaha, NE; his grandchildren, Jordan Peters (Patrick), Noah Jensen (Emily), Grace Harbour, Will Harbour and Henry Harbour; and his great grandchildren, Bowen and Avery Peters. He is also survived by other loving family members and dear friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 16th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Grawn United Methodist Church (1260 S West Silver Lake Rd, Traverse City, MI 49685). A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 16th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grawn United Methodist Church in honor of John's life and legacy.
