Marceline Block Obituary

Marceline Marie Block, affectionately known as Marcy, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at the age of 92 at Orchard Creek Assisted Living in Traverse City, Michigan.

Marcy was born on January 14, 1932, in Zilwaukee, Michigan, to Melvin and Edna Metiva. She shared her childhood with her twin sister, Marcena. Marcy graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1950, where she was a proud member of the Honor Society and played saxophone in the school band.

On January 20, 1973, Marcy married the love of her life, David Block. They shared 38 wonderful years together until David's passing in 2011. Marcy's professional journey began as a Bookkeeper and Office Assistant at Delta Optical, continuing her career at Flint Optical until their retirement in the early 1980's.

Throughout her life, Marcy resided in various Michigan cities, including Zilwaukee, Saginaw, Flint, and finally, Traverse City. Marcy was an active member of the Williamsburg United Methodist Church, where she served as Treasurer of the Church Women United of Williamsburg Women's Fellowship. She was also a dedicated member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for over 70 years.

Marcy's passion for serving extended beyond her professional career. She began volunteering at Samaritas Senior Living in 2001 and played a significant role in establishing the "All Faiths Church" service at Hope Village. Marcy continued her volunteer work until 2019, impacting the lives of many residents.

In her leisure time, Marcy enjoyed traveling, gardening, and following sports, particularly the Detroit Tigers and the Michigan State University Spartans. She was an avid golfer and bowler, and she cherished spending time with her sorority sisters and attending school reunions.

Marcy is survived by her sister Marcena Smith, nephew Brian Smith and his wife Lisa, niece Vanessa Smith, grandson-in-law Stephen Grobben, brother-in-law Keith Smith, great-niece Ashley Manion, great-nephew Adam Smith and his wife Mandie, along with their children Adyson, Archer, and Axel.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Block.

A memorial service to celebrate Marcy's life will be held at Williamsburg United Methodist Church, on Thursday, April 11th. Service will start at 11:00am with an hour of visitation prior, and a reception following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Williamsburg United Methodist Church. The family expresses gratitude to Orchard Creek Assisted Living for their compassionate care.
