He was predeceased by: his daughter Reneé Thayer; his parents, Leona Thayer (Parr) and George Thayer, Sr.; his stepmother Ruth Charbinois; his brother George Thayer, Jr.; and his brothers-in-law, Bill Tidd and Glenn Radloff.
He is survived by: his sons, Van "Vince" Thayer, Jr. (Jenifer) and Stephen Thayer; his grandchildren, Vincent Scott Thayer (Liezl), Justin T. Thayer, Derek Afton, Shawn Smith, Travis Bileth (Carrie) and Amanda Avery (Alex); his great grandchildren, Dominik, Lincoln, King, Jude, Joey, Avery and Amara; his sisters, Myrtle Tidd and Theda "Teddy" Radloff; and his sister-in-law Adele Thayer. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
