It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joanne Ruth Werner (Utica, Michigan), who passed away on February 11, 2026, at the age of 95, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her grandparents, William and Eva Breitenbecher; her husband John Frank Werner; her parents, Bill Schmaltz and Viola Schmaltz; and her brother Donald Schmaltz.
She is survived by: her sons, John of Palm Springs, CA, Steve (Alison) of Clinton Twp, Paul (Suzanne) of Lorain, OH and Mark (Cindy) of Mason, MI.; and her grandchildren, Emily, Lynae, Abi, Nate, Dan, Zack, Sarah, Leah, Joel, Eli, Michaela, Bethany and Noah. She is also survived by eighteen great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church of Utica, Michigan; Concordia Seminary St. Louis, Missouri; Lutheran Hour Ministries, St. Louis, Missouri; and the Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan.
