He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward L. Bergan Sr. and Zelma Bergan (Salsbury); and his siblings, Helen Bayman and Edward Lawrence Bergan. He is survived by: his wife Linda Kay Bergan (Minix); his sons, James Bergan Jr. (Mandy), Joseph Bergan (Tracy) and Nicholas Bergan (Angela); and his grandchildren, James III, Lily, Timothy, Kimberly and Koty.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Thursday, October 8th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the Kaniewski Funeral Home (3545 N Bendix Dr, South Bend, IN 46628). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 8th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
