He is survived by: his mother Sarah "Pauline" Schafer (Paisley); his wife Kathleen Schafer; his children, Adam Schafer (Nicole) of Tacoma, WA and Melanie Matthews (Alex) of Beal City; his granddaughters, Delilah, Minnie and Mabel Matthews; his siblings, Linda Connors (Diane Hercher), Chuck Schafer (Jeanne), Annette Mogg (Ed), Bernie Schafer (Barb) and Pat Schafer (Karen); and his in-laws, Tim Bollman, Bill Gross (Marilyn), Tom Gross (Marylyn), Paul Gross (Karen), Jeanne Schafer (Chuck), Steve Gross (Stephanie), Pete Gross (Deb), Mary Fields, Barb Schafer (Bernie), Carolyn Schumacher (Steve), Phil Gross (Julie), Norma Reihl (Terry), Kay Hauck (Neal) and Diane Fussman (Ryan). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
