Frederick Runyan Obituary
Frederick (Fred) Runyan was born in Saginaw, MI on January 8, 1940 to Fred D. and Ortella (Gerard) Runyan. He grew up in Freeland, MI, where, as a young boy, he came to know the Lord Jesus as his personal Savior. He had only one older brother, Kendall, who predeceased him. .After studying at Emmaus Bible School, (Oak Park, IL), he married Maribeth Lee Schmock on June 27, 1964 and they began their long journey together. Fred was a successful salesman throughout his life, but his real passions were fishing, hunting, gardening, and sharing his faith. His booming baritone voice blessed many congregations in song! Several years as camp manager at Story Book Lodge Christian Camp in northern Minnesota were a perfect fit and prepared the family for a move to Alaska in 1985; There he was able to satisfy his thirst for all things outdoors while being involved in the vibrant Christian community of Wasilla Bible Church and selling water and air purifiers. In 1998, Fred and Maribeth moved back to Michigan and ended up in the home his father had built on his grandfather's acreage. Self-employment enabled Fred and Maribeth to travel and do volunteer work at various Christian organizations, as well as spend time with their children who lived in Minnesota, Alaska, and Kansas.
He was loved by many people including his wife of almost 60 years, Maribeth, and his 5 children, Kim Cooper (Mark), Kristi Lucia (Mike), Stephen (Paula), Kari Warner and Seth. He was also cherished by 16 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and special nieces and nephews. There will be no memorial service now, but a celebration of his life will be held sometime this summer. Memorials can be sent to Judson Baptist Church, PO Box 143, Prescott MI 48756 or Story Book Lodge Christian Camp, 5079 Vermillion Trail, Gilbert, MN 55741.
