It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James Edward Schmitt of West Branch, Michigan, who passed away on October 15, 2025, at the age of 88, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Schmitt and Irene Schmitt; his siblings, Tom Schmitt and Phyllis Ostrander; his stepson Joey Belanger; his son-in-law Rodger Williams; and his brother-in-law Norris Day.
He is survived by: his wife Diane Schmitt; his daughter Theresa Williams; and his stepchildren, Pauline King (Tommy), Cindy Glappa (Jim), Vikki Belanger and Jimmy Belanger (Adriana). He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 21st 2025 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Homes - West Branch (109 E Houghton Ave, West Branch, MI 48661). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 21st 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Tuesday, October 21st 2025 at the Campbell Corners Cemetery S. (1058 S Campbell Rd, West Branch, MI 48661).
