He is survived by: his son Robert Plato; his grandchildren, Ashley TerVeen (Nathan), Brooke Podbilski (Colton), William Finkler (Erica) and Sarah Finkler; his half-siblings, Murrel Patterson, Edith Paul (Stephen) and Kelly Dumaine (Jim); and his sisters-in-law, Maryann Plato (Lawrence) and Terri Plato (Steven). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
