He was predeceased by: his wife Sally; and his son Bobby. He is survived by: his children, Jim, Perri Hartwell, Sue, Steve Sall, Laura and Mel Haight; his brother Al Hartwell; and his close friend Marge Schepers. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
