She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Maximillian John Bielenberg, Jr. and Viola Christine Bielenberg (Funke); her children, John M. Barr Jr., Karl A. Barr (Kaeli Garcia) and Elizabeth M. Barr Letter (Dean Letter); and her grandchildren, Oliver Barr, Karl Barr II (Zander), Elena (Garcia), Isaac Letter and Ariana Letter. She was also cherished by her husband, children, grandchildren, former students, friends.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 3rd 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Friday, September 4th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service was held on Friday, September 4th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church (201 N River St, Ypsilanti, MI 48198). A burial was held on Friday, September 4th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Highland Cemetery (943 N River St, Ypsilanti, MI 48198).
Marlene served on the board of the Ypsilanti Heritage Festival. the endowment board of the HighScope Educational Research Foundation and was chairman of a gourmet arts study group for more than 50 years.
