He was predeceased by: his parents, George Sylvester and Ida Sylvester (Ash); and his brother James Sylvester. He is survived by: his wife Susan Sylvester; his children, Amy Sylvester of Fridley and Scott Sylvester (Jessica) of South Haven; his grandchildren, Livvy and George Sylvester; his sister Jean Hubbard (Jim) of Bagley; and his sister-in-law Susan Sylvester of Little Falls.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to be given to the "Delano Public School - Sly Fund", a scholarship for students at Delano High School.
