He was predeceased by: his parents, Emil Nilson and Laura Nilson (Pick); and his daughter Susan Belan. He is survived by: his wife Betty Nilson; his children, Julie Kiernan (Tom) of Buffalo, Trisha Rollag (Scott) of Monticello, Scott Nilson (Michelle) of South Haven, Tim Engle (Michelle) of Annandale and Carrie Sjobolm (Bill) of St. Cloud; his son-in-law John Belan of Isanti; and his siblings, Alice Wolfe (John), Maurice Nilson (Jean), Floss Nilson and Rosemary Nilson. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
Memorials to Quiet Oaks Hospice House are preferred.
