He was predeceased by: his parents, Emil Leinonen and Rauha Leinonen (Luittio); his wife Kathleen Lois Rassat; his son Gerald; and his siblings, Mary Eleanor, Norma, Marian and Daniel.
He is survived by: his children, Steven (Helen) of Annandale, Sheila Demarais (Russ) of Swatara, Sharon Lucas (Marvin) of Maple Grove, Gail Sindt of Vadnais Heights and Gwenn Elmblad (Matthew) of L'Anse, MI; and his siblings, Margaret Groop of Annandale and Peter Leinonen (Judy) of Elk River. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials are preferred to Minnesota Pioneer Park in Annandale.
