He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Ballhagen and Marlys Ballhagen (Backman); his brother LaVerne Ballhagen; his sister-in-law Neoma Ballhagen; and his father-in-law Orville Brown.

He is survived by: his wife Gayle Brown of Beardsley, MN; his sons, Kevin Ballhagen (Sara) of Wheaton and Justin Ballhagen of Beardsley, MN; his grandchildren, Austin, Blake, Lexi and Matthew; his brother Darvin Ballhagen of Wilmot, SD; his sister-in-law Diane Ballhagen of Wheaton, MN; and his mother-in-law Darlyne Brown of Sisseton, SD. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
