He was predeceased by: his parents, Oscar Puttin and Minnie Puttin (Krause); his wife Judith Smith-Paulson; his sister Jewell "Julie" Hipp; and his stepson-in-law Mike Mansmith.
He is survived by: his stepchildren, Amy Mansmith of Austin, MN and Jeff Paulson of Hartland, MN.; his stepgranddaughter Kristal Jameson (Josh Baseman); his brother-in-law Tony Hipp; his niece Jana Hipp; and his great-niece Peyton Hipp.
