He was predeceased by: his father Wesley Truax; his grandparents, Alvin, Dorris Truax, Alphonse and Esther Wirth; his uncles, Alvin, Richard Wirth, Mervin Truax and Jim Kurz; and his nephew Henry Ahrens.

He is survived by: his mother Leona Truax; his wife Amy Detwiler; his children, Tyler Truax (Denise), Courtney Truax (Robin Harkins), Dalton Detwiler (Jaramie), Cole (Paige De) and Brett Isensee; his grandchildren, Wesley and Izabella Truax; and his sisters, Kim Ahrens (Mike) and Susan Hochstetler (Mike).

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Bemidji Youth Hockey Association or University of Minnesota Masonic Cancer Center.
