He was predeceased by: his grandfather Matt; his mother Emmeline; his stepfather James George, Sr.; his sister Evaline Skerik; his brother-in-law Joe Skerik; his brother Ken Matthews; his brothers-in-law, Kenny Sorenson and Robert Smith, Sr.; and his parents-in-law, Charles and Willodee Warrington.
He is survived by: his wife Nancy Matthews (Warrington); his children, Gary Matthews (Shannon) and Vickie Matthews; his grandchildren, Willie Matthews, Taylor Parker (Taylor), Zach Matthews and Carter Matthews; his great grandchildren, Elwood Matthews, Willow Matthews, Brynlee Parker, Razzer Matthews and Zara Matthews; and his siblings, Jim George (Liz), Linda Smith, Nancy Hedlund (Duane), Janice Sorensen and Carol Sorheim (Elroy). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 28th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home (3330 Irvine Ave NW, Bemidji, MN 56601). A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 28th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
