He was predeceased by: his parents, Edwin Berens and Ethlyn Berens (Knode); his wife Beverley June; his siblings, Eugene, Vernon and Marjorie; and his siblings-in-law, Rhoda Berens and Roger Vergin.
He is survived by: his children, Susan Anderson (Tom) of Willmar, Daniel Berens of Benson, Cynthia Reiman (Bob) of Benson, James Berens (Linda) of Benson, Robin Berens (Kimberley) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Karin Berens of Wichita, Kansas, Ruth Ann Reiman (Paul) of Benson and Brent Berens (Linette) of Benson; and his siblings, Donald Berens (Barb) of St. Louis Park, Clarence "Swede" Berens of Benson, Shirley Vergin of Plato, Sharon Bierbaum (Duane) of Glencoe, Roger "Butch" Berens of Benson and Donna Collins of Benson. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
