He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Schwer and Monica Schwer (LaFontaine); his granddaughter Delaney Gass; his siblings, Toni Strecker and Clarence Peter; his brother-in-law Randy Gilberts; and his parents-in-law, Orland and Dianna.

He is survived by: his wife Betsy of Bird Island; his children, Kristina Gass (Jay) of Bird Island and Brandon Schwer of Bird Island; his grandchildren, Madilyn, Issac Schwer and Taylor Gass; and his siblings, Sharon Nelson (Don) of Willmar, Peggy Gilberts of Lake Lillian, Kevin Schwer (Tammy) of Olivia and Kenny Schwer (Robin) of Olivia.
