He was loved and cherished by many people including: his foster parent Thief; his parents, George Mikkelsen and Pearl Mikkelsen; his brothers, Leroy "Mike" Mikkelsen (Oray), Jens Mikkelsen and Virgil Mikkelsen (Emogene); his foster parents, Oscar Johnson and Eleanor Johnson; his foster brother Dean Johnson; his wife Mary Mikkelsen of Blaine, MN; his daughter Audra Leonard (Doug) of Eden Prairie, MN; his grandchildren, Dr. Dylan Leonard of Rochester, MN and Madelyn Meyers (Dan) of New Hope, MN; his foster brother Paul Johnson (Geno); and his nephew Kevin Mikkelsen (Holly) of Corcoran, MN. He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews.
He helped with fund-raising at the Game Feed, Gun Raffle, and Golf Tournament for Minnesota Military Families Foundation (MMFF). He also donated his time and talents to help remodel the Fridley VFW interior to keep the club open.
