He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred William and Mathilda Hesterman (Schwiebert); his wife Claire Hesterman (Knop); and his siblings, Luciel Ripke (Hesterman) and Rev. Donald Hesterman.

He is survived by: his children, Paul (Colleen McLaughlin), Daniel (Jean Johnson) and Beth (Hesterman) Wilkins (Mark Wilkins); and his grandchildren, Tim Wilkins (Amy), Tara (Wilkins), Sheridan (Erik Sheridan), Jared Wilkins (Maria Vedders), Katrina (Hesterman), Daul (Travis Daul), Angela (Hesterman), McMahon (Brendan McMahon), Meghan Hesterman, Sam Johnson (Amber) and Peter Johnson (Amanda Winter). He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
