Samuel D. Shields Obituary
With sadness, we share the passing of Samuel D. Shields (Brainerd, Minnesota). Samuel, born on February 18, 1933, passed away on October 7, 2026. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Samuel D. Shields to pay them a last tribute.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Sylvia Shields (Johnson) and Phillip Shields; his wife June Erickson; and his siblings, Shirley and Phillip "Sonny".
He is survived by: his children, Stacey Harting (Wayne) of Brainerd, MN, Jay Shields (Connie) of Winthrop, MN, Laura Hane of Ontonagon, Michigan and Scott Appel (Lisa Poole) of Bloomington, MN; his stepdaughter Kris Tatro (Dan) of Stillwater, MN; his brother-in-law David Nordgren (Helen) of Crosslake, MN.; his nieces, Megan and Mandy Nordgren; and his grandchildren, Camden Shields, Ben Tatro, Michael Tatro (Christina) and Marissa Tatro. He is also survived by extended family members, and dear friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, October 15th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Brainerd American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages friends and loved ones to honor Sam's memory by spending time outdoors, taking a walk, a run, a bike ride, or a ski through God's creation, just as Sam loved to do.
