He was loved and cherished by many people including : his parents, Elling Knutson and Ida Knutson; his wife Linda; and his children, Jim Jr. Knutson (Cynthia), Steve Knutson (Cindy), Kay Harrington (Mark), Dan Knutson (Bonnie), Mike Knutson, Connie Clemens (Mike), Rick Thompson and Lori Olson. He was also cherished by 22 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 16th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM and on Wednesday, April 17th 2024 at 8:30 AM. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 16th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Kok Funeral Home (1201 Portland Ave, St Paul Park, MN 55071). The military honors was held on Wednesday, April 17th 2024 at 9:30 AM at the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery (7601 34th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55450).
