He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Matter and Ruth Matter (Frantz); his grandson Jeremy Matter; his siblings, Ralph Matter (Joyce), Jerome Matter (Mary), Lavonne Jacobson, Aileen Melis (Jack) and Linus Matter; and his siblings-in-law, Leo Steffl, Vernon Auren (Velma) and Yvonne Sinth (Howard).
He is survived by: his wife Betty Lou Matter (Auren); his children, Joel Matter, Paul Matter, Al Matter (Irma), Tony Matter (Kim), James Matter (Terry), Liz Kandler (Kirk) and Ione Matter; his grandchildren, Joseph, Alicia, James, Kayla, Kelsey, Karley, Jennifer and AJ; his sister Cleo Steffl; and his siblings-in-law, Marilyn Matter, LaVeta Longtine and Margie Wolfswinkle. He is also survived by 24 great grandchildren.
