He was predeceased by: his parents, Warren Hempel and Margaret Hempel; and his siblings, Jerry, Bob and Barbara.
He is survived by: his wife Jill; his children, Heather Samdahl and Shawn Hempel (Michelle); and his sister Margie Bills (Fred). He is also survived by five grandchildren, three great grandchildren.
