He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Brittain and Annie Brittain (Wishall). He is survived by: his wife June; his sons, Tom (Alicia) and Ken; his grandchildren, Stephen, Shaun, Kayla and Justin (Lyndsay); his great grandchildren, Kennedy and Callen; and his sisters, Sister Janelle Ann Brittain, Marilyn Raines (Vern) and Patti Pelz (Dick). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In recent years, John and June moved to Cottage Grove, Minnesota to be closer to family as he courageously battled Parkinson's disease.
