He was predeceased by: his wife Annabel Clift Smith; his siblings, Mathilda Denton (Arnold), Henry, Agnes Boraas (Omar), Hazel Krepps (William), Esther Denton (Orrin) and Grace; and his stepdaughter Bonnie Simmons.

He is survived by: his stepchildren, Nancy Steffes, William Smith, Barbara Gross and Judith Smith. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
