He was predeceased by: his parents, Benroy Smaagaard and Solveig Smaagaard (Wenskaug); his sister Ardith Westgaard (Dennis); and his niece Colbey Jo Ehlenz. He is survived by: his wife Sandra Clauson; his children, Stacy Stratmoen (Jon) of Dawson, MN and Jody Smaagaard (Jessica) of Albertville, MN; his grandchildren, Seth, Olivia, Elly Stratmoen, Reagan and Mckenna Smaagaard; and his siblings, Bradley Smaagaard (Joann) and Lolly Ehlenz (Bob). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, extended family.
Visitation was held on Sunday, September 13th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and on Monday, September 14th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A prayer was held on Sunday, September 13th 2026 at 3:30 PM at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home (718 Chestnut St, Dawson, MN 56232). A funeral service was held on Monday, September 14th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Grace Lutheran Church (716 8th St, Dawson, MN 56232).
