He was predeceased by: his parents, Lucille Mattson (Merritt) and Ernest Mattson of Duluth Township, Minnesota.. He is survived by: his wife Lucille Holzemer; his children, Cynthia Mattson and Michael Mattson (Kerry Peck); his grandchildren, Jeffrey Mattson, Bretta Carney, Michelle Stramel, Krista Mattson and Eva Mattson; his great grandchild Dylan Mattson; his great great grandchildren, Corey and Eli Mattson; and his siblings, Priscilla Sklors, Barbara Hollinday and Robert Mattson (Bonnie). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
