He was predeceased by : his parents, Lena Jouwstra and Stegenga; his former life partner Shirley Van Steenwyk; his parents-in-law, Carl and Ada Van Steenwyk; his sister Theresa Tinkenberg; and his siblings-in-law, Berton Tinklenberg, Clarence Doornbos, John and Dorothy Fransen.
He is survived by : his wife Hermina Van Essen (Mina); his children, Lori Van Essen (Del) of Edgerton, Mike Jouwstra (Tricia) of Edgerton and Rich Jouwstra (Sara Jouwstra) of Willmar; his grandchildren, Jessica Willems, Krista Sikkema, Brett Jouwstra, Kala Talsma, Devin Jouwstra, Blake Jouwstra, Mara Mouw, Macy Hanson, Kye Jouwstra, Courtney Kooi, Meghan Hylland, Leo Jouwstra and Trey Jouwstra; his stepchildren, Verla Kuiken, Hemet, Glenn Van Essen (Marilyn), Minn and Ivan Van Essen (Diane) of Sioux Falls, S. D.; his siblings, Peter (Sharlene), Jenison, Mich, Jim (Carole) of Menifee, Calif., Janice Zandt (George) of Omaha, Nebr, Glenda Beukelman (Roger) of Charlotte and Tenn; and his sister-in-law Darlene Chalfant (Robert). He is also survived by 8 step-grandchildren, and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
