He was predeceased by: his parents, John Sr. Arends and Mary Arends (Johnson); his wife Florence Kruger; and his siblings, Ann Kleinwolterink, Heikelena Harms, Mary Kramer, John Jr., George and Raymond.

He is survived by: his children, Sharon Arends of Adrian, MN, Marvella Klaahsen (Keith) of Sibley, IA, Glen Arends (Barb) of Lester, IA, Doug Arends of Sioux Falls, SD, Erwin Arends (Lori) of Little Rock, IA and Marlin Arends of Onamia, MN; and his brother Henry "Hank" Arends of Ellsworth, MN. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church of George.
