He was predeceased by: his parents, John C. Illies and Gertrude Illies (Lesser); his siblings, Gene Illies, Eleanor Maier and Ruth Wischnefski; his siblings-in-law, Don Emslander, Jim Maier and Alice Illies; his niece Jackie Warnert; and his nephews, James Maier, Jr., John Illies, Brian Wischnefski and Jason Illies.

He is survived by: his siblings, Mary Emslander of Sauk Centre, Thomas Illies of Andover, Kathy Wischnefski (Ron) of Sartell and Betty Freihammer of Sauk Rapids; and his siblings-in-law, Jerry Wischnefski and Donna Illies. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Eagles Healing Nest in Sauk Centre.
