He was predeceased by: his parents, John Harthun and Clara Harthun (Chapman); his brothers, Robert Harthun and Ronnie Harthun; his siblings-in-law, DeWayne Collins, Darrel Kugler and Connie Harthun; and his father-in-law Ormon Kugler.

He is survived by: his wife Judy Kugler; his children, Vance Harthun (Heidi) of Dent, Trent Harthun (Carrie) of Fergus Falls and Trevan Harthun (Naomi) of Underwood; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Harthun of Fergus Falls, Laranda, Kendra Harthun of Dent, Brianna Harthun (Mitch) of Moorhead, Tristan Harthun of Fergus Falls, Kaiden, Elsie and Clara Harthun of Underwood; his great grandchild Ann Harthun; his sisters, Lila Collins of Dent and Lorna Hagerup (Vernon) of Pelican Rapids; his sisters-in-law, Kathy Harthun of Dent and Connie Nelson (Jerry) of Detroit Lakes; and his mother-in-law Elsie Kugler of Fergus Falls. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
