With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Winston Backen of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, who passed away on January 17, 2026 at the age of 83. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Backen and Bernice Backen (Bjerken); his wife Claudia Skunberg; his brothers, Ronald Backen and Allan Backen; his parents-in-law, Leonard and Ida Skunberg; his brother-in-law Lowell Skunberg; and his son-in-law Odin Beard.
He is survived by: his children, Craig Backen (Kelly) and Jill Beard; his granddaughters, Brooke and Carly; his siblings, Marilyn Johnson (Ronald), Debbie Haney (Don), David Backen (Becky) and Byron Backen (Sheela); his friend Bernie; Jim and Barb. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorials are preferred to the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Fergus Falls for their haircut account.
