He was predeceased by: his parents, Andrew G. Smelter and Agnes P. Smelter (Schendzielos); his sister Nanette; his son Nicholas Richard; and his granddaughter Erin Marinac.
He is survived by: his wife Coleen Corrigan; his daughter Lea Marinac (Dan); his grandchildren, Jonathan and Lauren; his daughter Andrea Gilyard (Brent); his grandchildren, Brennen, Emmett and Maura of Oak Park; his daughter Sheila Wagner (Jacob); his grandsons, Leo and Henry of Clear Lake; and his siblings, Kathleen M. Norstad of Waite Park, Sharon Mark (Gregg) of St. Cloud, Tom (Janice) of Sauk Rapids, Cecilia Strait (Buck) of Foley, Curt (Patricia) of Foley, Greg (Susan) of Maple Grove, Chuck (Lisa) and Jeanette Struffert (Steve) of Foley. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
