He was predeceased by : his parents, Robert Schmitz and Mayme Schmitz (Tschida); and his brothers, John Schmitz and Gilbert Schmitz. He is survived by : his siblings, Irene "Reno" Schmitz of Freeport and Isidore Schmitz (Beverly) of Freeport; his nieces and nephews, Robin Schmitz (Carrie) of Freeport, Andrew Schmitz (Tanya) of Clear Lake and Kelly Wiechman (Jeron) of Freeport; his great-nieces, Alice and Cate Schmitz; and his great-nephew Everett Wiechman.

A reception was held on Saturday, April 27th 2024 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services (418 Fifth Ave SE, Melrose, MN 56352).
