He was predeceased by : his parents, Jackie Zabel and Merwyn "Bud" Zabel; his sister Nancy (Bill); his father-in-law Robert Stachowski; his sister-in-law Sandy Brown Stachowski; and his pet Boo.

He is survived by : his wife Janie; his sons, Michael (Amy), Robert (Louann), Joe (Missy) and Rick; his grandchildren, Chase (Alicia), Jordan and Devin; his great grandchildren, Maddie, Emelia, Charlee and Max; his sisters, Karen (Donny) and Carol (Gary); his close friend Maggie Pentz; and his pets, Digger and Cuddles. He is also survived by many other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
