He was predeceased by: his parents, William DeSmet and Margaret DeSmet (DeSutter); his siblings, Juliana DeSmet, Deanna Archer, Pauline "Sara" Winters and Jeff DeSmet; his siblings-in-law, Mary DeSmet, Mike Paul, Butch Dahl and Bill Kenne; his niece Shannon DeSmet; and his daughter Licole Opdahl.
He is survived by: his wife Pam DeSmet; his children, Lee DeSmet (LaVonne) of Lakeville, Lorna Langr (Carl) of Lonsdale, Layne and Lott; his stepchildren, Erica Keyser of Sioux Falls and Adam Keyser (Katie) of Lake Elmo; his grandchildren, Sydney, Nick, Jakob, Gabrielle, Olivia, Benjamin, Claudia, Eleanor and Lydia; his son-in-law Rob Opdahl of Prescott, WI; his siblings, Ben (Anne) of Blaine, Ron (Brenda) of Silver Springs, NV, Jerry of Lake Hendricks, SD, Susie Paul of St. Peter, Margie Dahl of Marshall and Joan Hennen (Vincent) of Alexandria; and his brother-in-law Billy Archer. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Larry went to be with his daughter, Licole, on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the Sanford Hospice Foundation Cottage in Sioux Falls, SD.
